An individual who spiked treats with sedative and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males who were nine and ten years old.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention before a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She said Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his stepson had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel stated items including baby oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated the man continued to play the "treat game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the events.
The legal representative said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the police a second time.
She stated Ruben then played the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
