Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
